Active men cut their dementia risk by nearly half
Here is a number worth holding onto. Boston University researchers tracked more than 1,500 people from the Framingham Heart Study, a project running for eight decades now. They looked at how much people moved in mid-life and later. The active mid-life group had a 45% lower risk of dementia. The active late-life group sat at 41%. That gap is huge for one habit.
Let me explain how movement reaches the brain. Exercise sparks a protein called brain-derived growth factor — think of it as fertilizer for your neurons. It helps brain cells grow, connect, and survive. One year-long study in older adults showed aerobic exercise grew the hippocampus by 2%. The hippocampus is your memory center. And it normally shrinks as you age. So this was the clock running backward.
There is a simpler signal here too. More blood flow means more oxygen and fuel for brain tissue. Cardio drives that flow. Your heart and your head share the same plumbing.
  A separate analysis of 78,000 adults found a clear dose. Just 3,800 steps a day cut dementia risk by 25%. Near 10,000 steps cut it by half.
I could be wrong on the exact numbers for any one person. These are population studies, not promises. People who walk more also tend to sleep better and eat better. So the picture is tangled. But the direction never wavers.
I believe this is one of the safest bets in brain health. And I urge you to start with a daily walk you will actually keep.

A new study checked 191 human brain samples for microplastics — plastic fragments smaller than a sesame seed. They turned up in almost all of them, even healthy brains. Calming brain inflammation to slow the disease
For years, drugs chased one protein: amyloid. Now the focus is spreading. Drugs aimed at brain inflammation have grown from 6% of the pipeline to about 20%. Inflammation shows up in nearly every Alzheimer’s brain. Cool it down, the thinking goes, and you may slow the damage. This is treating the fire from a new side.

Reusing an old ADHD pill for memory loss
About a third of pipeline drugs are old medicines tested for a new job. One is atomoxetine, first used for attention deficit disorder. A mid-stage trial is testing it in people with early memory trouble. The hope is it slows the slide. Reused drugs already have a safety record. So they can move faster.
